When researching different magazine adverts for albums I
found this one for the band You Me At Six. This one differs from the majority
of adverts as this does not have an image of the artist as the main focus, it
is has an abstract colourful image. This breaks the typical codes and
conventions and could make the advert stand out more. It is also leaves the
image and style of the artist out as you recognise the band by name and
suggests that they only want to focus on their music rather than the image. Advertising
like this is popular with indie bands which relate to being individual and
different, care less about main streams codes and conventions and just focus on
their music. This is a good example of how genres can differ from one another.

Magazine advert research
Similarly to the CD covers the magazine advert is dominated
by the image of the artist. The whole text is themed and colour coded to suit
the artist, for example this particular text mainly focused on black and gold. This
will contrast with the magazine cover I intend to create which will be bright
and colourful themed either around the colour pink or blue.
The conventions of the advert include the image, the artists name, the albums name, the most popular song on the album and the record labels.
Again this text is very simple but effective, gives a overall professional image. Very sleek style which is strongly related to post modern media advertising as the artist and the image sell the product rather than the advertising which makes them the main focus of the text.

Images for CD cover
These are a few images I took that I may use when creating my CD cover. When researching I found that the image was the most dominate part of the media text and gave a closeup image of the artist, I used revealing clothes and a colourful background in order to try and reflect the images in which Nicki Minaj used on her CD front covers
CD Cover 5
This is a CD cover from a Pop artist, very modern artist
from 2011 and had her it single in 2012 – call me maybe. This her CD cover. We
can see how this can relate to Nicki Minaj as the colour is bright pink for the
drop background so shows how Nicki Minaj mixes the codes and conventions of two
different genres to create her own style.
From all the different CD covers I have looked at and researched, the image of the artist has been the most dominate part of the image and been made the main focus of the text which shows how this is a typical convention of a CD front cover and I will take note of this when creating my own.
However the clothing and style of the image differs greatly depending on the artist, for example Carly Rae Jepson on here looks very pretty and innocent, as she looks into the camera. Nicki Minaj image is more unique and powerful looking as she is a more dominate RnB character. She also dresses more unsual and revealing then Carly has on this image and as my song is from one of Nicki Minaj’s album I will relate it more to her type of style
The conventions of this CD include the image, the artists name and the title of the album which is ‘K I S S’

CD Cover 4 - Lil Kim
This is a more traditional RnB CD cover, matches the codes
and conventions of this genre.
We can see how Nicki Minaj has some common features with this CD cover. For example on the ‘RE-UP’ album below she is similarly wearing a chunky gold chain which is shown as bling. They are also both looking directly into the camera pulling a ‘hard’ looking face. This portrays them as fearless, strong women which related to the RnB culture. Although Nicki Minaj’s outfit is not fully shown on the image below we can see she has a low cut top on and in the image below that she appears to be naked which relates to this CD cover in which the artist ‘Lil Kim’ is dressed in a very revealing clothing. This is because RnB is strongly related to money and sexual connation’s. However Nicki Minaj also differs from this cover as she mixes her own style with popular music culture including her own right pink feminine image whereas this cover uses dark colours.
The conventions of this cover include the image of the artist (which is the most dominate part of the text) the artists name, the album name, a drop line and a warning of explicit language.
Target audience would relate to young adults who enjoy RnB style music.

CD Cover 3
Another CD cover from the artist Nicki Minaj, this is her
most recent CD cover.
Shows a close-up image of Nicki Minaj with a dark pink background, shows how the image is the most dominate part of the text and the main focus is on her face. Pulling a face almost like a ‘growl’ image, gives the impression of power and dominance. Looking right into the camera lenz at the audience shows no fear relates more to her RnB style image. However still follows the pink theme, main colour is pink in this text, I will be using bright colours when creating my own CD cover.
Conventions: the album title, the image of the artist and the artists name.
Very established artist by this point with wide spread fan base so a close-up of her face is all that is needed to sell this album.
